People planning to study abroad usually seek to gain or improve proficieny in the language of their selected host country and acquire familiarity with the culture. The benefits that some types of residences abroad have on career and job prospects are often an important factor as well. Through a research project by the University of Jena, in cooperation with the German Academic Exchange Service (Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst - DAAD), former exchange students were asked about the significance of their residence abroad to them.
