Filtered Foundation, the charitable arm of the online training platform Filtered.com, is offering free access to its online training to the first fifty student ambassadors who sign up for a creative writing course in Margate on Friday 5th and Saturday 6th August.

Margate Bookie, a summer litfest in its second year, kicks off this weekend with a series of free writing workshops aimed at writers of all ages. Budding writers, authors and bloggers are all welcome to attend the sessions (Resort Studios, Margate, Friday 5th and Saturday 6th August).

Filtered is pleased to announce its involvement in the festival by making some of its online courses available to the writers through the Filtered Foundation. In addition to accessing Filtered training materials, students will meet professional authors, pick up hints and tips about their own writing, and get career and study advice from Canterbury Christ Church University.

Paolo Lenotti, Head of Marketing & PR at Filtered, commented enthusiastically about the new partnership with the Margate Bookie festival: "This is a fantastic event that will encourage and inspire students from less privileged backgrounds. To excel in the modern workplace, new starters must hold their own in an interview and show they are well prepared for work. The Filtered Foundation offers students access to Filtered’s online courses from an earlier age to make this happen, and it's with this spirit that we agreed to get involved in the Margate Bookie."

Amongst the authors taking part in the festival are Katherine May, who teaches Creative Writing at Canterbury Christ Church University, and Iain Aitch, author of We’re British, Innit (Collins) and A Fête Worse Than Death (Headline). On Saturday Laura Powell, commissioning editor at the Daily Telegraph will talk about her crime thriller, The Unforgotten, which is set in a seaside town. Fiona Cummins, an award-winning former Daily Mirror show-business journalist, will close the show with a talk about her debut novel, Rattle, which will be adapted into a TV series after a dramatic bidding war.

Andreas Loizou, who set up the Margate Bookie, has authored courses on Business Writing and Communication Skills for Filtered. He says: “I’m delighted that Filtered are supporting these Margate Bookie courses. Many of our audience fell in love with Margate last year and have already booked to come and see us again this time. I'm sure this year it will be even better.”
