Tata Interactive Systems joins an elite group of BS7799-certified organisations worldwide
Tata Interactive Systems
10-May-2005 » Training Press Releases » The global e-learning pioneer, Tata Interactive Systems (TIS), has joined an elite group of organisations worldwide which have been assessed and certified as achieving the British Standards Institute (BSI)'s information security management standard, BS7799. TIS has recently received BS7799: 2:2002 certification for the design and development of custom-built and product-based e-learning solutions.
According to TIS's CEO, Sanjaya Sharma: "Since information is a fundamental organisational asset, every organisation needs to enjoy - and be confident that it enjoys - a high degree of information security."
"The key to this confidence is the attainment of the British Standards Institute (BSI)'s information security management BS7799 certification," added TIS's worldwide president of sales and marketing, Manoj Kutty. "BS7799 applies to all sectors of industry and commerce and addresses the security of information stored or transmitted across multiple formats - print, electronic, post, email, audio-visual and verbal."
The certification was awarded through Det Norske Veritas (DNV), an independent, knowledge-based organisation, based in Oslo and operating in several industries internationally. DNV has assessed and certified the information security at a number of prestigious organisations including GE Capital International Services and Infosys Technologies.
"Naturally, it is gratifying that TIS's information security systems meet the world's most rigorous standard," Sanjaya Sharma commented.
"However, the real beneficiaries of this are Tata Interactive Systems' many clients around the world. They can now be completely confident that any information that give us - to be included in the e-learning materials we develop for them, for example - is 100 per cent secure."
Achieving a BS7799 certification is a substantial task involving rigorous procedures. It requires not only the assessment of compliance levels for different information systems but also involves developing an information security management system (ISMS) that satisfies the requirements of BS7799.
This involves three steps:
1. The creation of a management framework of information.
2. The identification and assessment of security risks.
3. The selection and implementation of controls.
Obtaining a BS7799 certificate guarantees that the organisation has addressed, implement and controlled its security information across different levels. The certification:
- Establishes that the relevant laws and regulations are being met.
- Ensures that a commitment to information security exists at all levels throughout the organisation.
- Demonstrates credibility and trust.
