| Sheffield, UK
13-Mar-2006 » Training Press Releases » Jane Knight, the founder of the e-Learning Centre, has become the Head of Research, Organisational Learning Technologies, at Learning Light, a non-profit organisation that helps to build relationships between learning technology researchers, suppliers, buyers and learners.
Jane Knight, the founder of the e-Learning Centre and, for over 20 years, a well known figure in what is now the e-Learning world, has become the Head of Research, Organisational Learning Technologies, at Learning Light, a non-profit organisation that helps to build relationships between learning technology researchers, suppliers, buyers and learners.
For 14 years, between 1983 and 1997, Knight worked in Further and Higher Education as a Senior Lecturer in IT as well as a Learning Technology adviser. She was one of the pioneers in using the web for teaching and learning in education.
In 1997 Knight left teaching to concentrate on providing e-Learning and consultancy services to both universities and businesses. She has helped many organisations - both large and small - with their e-Learning projects from building their learning strategies, through design and development, to implementation and evaluation.
A well-known author in the field of learning technologies, Knight has also built her expertise in providing professional development services to e-Learning teams, academics and e-Learning professionals, helping them to understand the potential of learning technologies for their businesses and for education and training.
For the last 12 years, she has run the e-Learning Centre - an authoritative information source on all aspects of e-Learning, which also contains the industry's leading online job centre.
"Learning Light's research teams will be carrying out in-depth research into all aspects of learning technologies," said Knight. "This research will help Learning Light's member organisations to implement learning technologies effectively to and integrate various learning delivery technologies within their workflow processes.
"In addition, we hope to partner with leading thinkers in the industry and provide a network for all who are interested in the field to share information, knowledge, insight, experience and expertise, through online community tools, networking events, conferences and seminars with leading gurus in the field," she added.
Supported by Yorkshire Forward, the regional development agency for Yorkshire, and the Humber and Objective 1 South Yorkshire, Learning Light has a nationwide - and international - remit to provide bespoke and individual services to help both buyers and suppliers of learning technologies.
Mark Pittaway, Learning Light's managing director, commented: "Through Learning Light, we are striving to create a European Centre of Excellence for the use of learning technologies in the workplace. This task has become more achieveable now that we have someone of the calibre and industry-stature as Jane Knight to head our research and analysis activities."
