Why Managers need coaching skills
The Performance Solution
| Extended DISC UK
20-Nov-2006 » Training Press Releases » Today's Managers face many challenges. Not least the challenge to stay competitive in the fast paced businesses of today. But how can Managers ensure that they are adaptable and their people are working at their optimum to take the organisations performance to the next level?
For many managers, coaching is already part of their role but few have received training in coaching skills. A survey by the work foundation found that whilst 80% of organisations use coaching to develop their staff only 20% provide training in coaching skills. For those managers that have been trained, coaching can bring huge benefits to the organisation including the ability of the managers to deal with all sorts of situations using techniques that can be applied to any situation.
The flexibility shown by managers with skills to coach their people allows staff to develop and adapt to the fast changing business environment. Coaching is the quickest and most effective method of developing members of staff. Good coaching and performance management leads to self-motivation and an attitude that is oriented towards solutions and continual improvement rather than problems and avoidance. Managers can further enhance the effectiveness of their coaching sessions and gain a deeper insight into their people using behavioural assessments. It is vital that a manger is trained in interpreting and feeding back assessments to ensure they are used correctly and enhance strengths as well as developing weaknesses. The Extended DISC personal analysis assessment is very flexible and can be used in many different situations.
