Bray Leino BroadSkill staff help spruce up North Devon Hospice
Bray Leino BroadSkill

5-Oct-2009 » Training Press Releases » Staff from Bray Leino BroadSkill have taken a much-needed break from running one of the country's most successful training companies to spend a day helping to improve the grounds and facilities at North Devon Hospice.

Part of Bray Leino, the Filleigh-based national marketing communications agency which has supported the hospice for 3 years, the group of 22 staff decorated rooms, cleaned out an overgrown pond, built a new garage for the patient buggy, created new storage areas and tidied up some storage spaces.

The challenge, which took place on Thursday 24th September, was organised in partnership with Business in the Community's 'Cares' scheme where employees get a chance to volunteer in their local community. While the tasks were primarily intended to be a way of giving something back to the community, they were at the same time designed to promote team building.

Team leader Dilys Godfrey from Bray Leino BroadSkill says: "Having had the opportunity to be part of a previous challenge day I felt it would be a good idea for our whole business to do it. With over 20 people we felt we could make a real difference."

Roger Dickinson, head of support services at North Devon Hospice, adds: "Bray Leino has always been very supportive of the hospice. This is the latest example of how they are willing to muck in and help us achieve things. We were amazed with how much they were able to get done in just one day and we are very grateful for their support.

"We try to create as homely and comfortable an environment for patients as possible, so having a big team on site to help us achieve that was fantastic. What they have done will make a real difference to patients and their families."

Katie Edmondson from Business in the Community says: "We are delighted the team from Bray Leino BroadSkill had such a fulfilling day. Bray Leino is always keen to give something back for such a worthwhile cause and this is a great example. Cares' challenges are a good way to work together with your team while doing something for your local community; it just goes to show what team work can do!"

Henry Jodrell, managing director of Bray Leino BroadSkill, says: "The challenge was a chance for Bray Leino BroadSkill staff to provide some extra support to the grounds team to help shorten their long list of jobs. The team at the hospice certainly made us feel welcome with all their hospitality and appreciation.

"Days like this really serve to cement friendships and build trust among the team which in the end helps us to continue to develop. It was a day full of challenges, laughs and a sense of great purpose."
