eLearning needs Tutoring - Tutoring needs competence
Online Educa Berlin - exhibitor | common sense eLearning & training consultants, Vienna

9-Nov-2009 » Training Press Releases » In successful cooperation together with the Austrian teacher training (e-LISA academy) and the Danube University Krems, common sense eLearning & training consultants GmbH developed a practice-oriented education training program for Online Tutors.

The first run in October 2008 was a success, reflected in the high number of new attendants. The alumnis gave positive feedback. They now feel confident in handling the learning platform (in this case moodle), moderating and giving feedback during an eLearning course.

The education addresses future online tutors and eLearning agents in companies and organisations, trainers, teachers and other interested persons. The curriculum is devided into four main components:

• kick-off workshop
• 4 weeks online phase
• online test
• internship

On the kick-off workshop participants learn about roles and tasks of online tutors, feedback rules and how to work with communication tools. In the guided 4 week online phase several tasks concerning the daily routine of an online tutor are trained. The core of the blended learning phase is cooperative learning: practicing e-moderation, time management and discussing self-perception and challenges. Finally a tutor guide is developed in small peer groups.

The specific characteristic of this education is the 4 weeks (minimum) internship which is accompanied by experienced meta tutors as coaches. Participants have to write a study diary in which they reflect their strategies and the challenges of the tutoring process.

At the moment common sense eLearning & training consultants GmbH accomplish this online tutor education for the Austrian education organisation e-LISA academy and offers it also to single interested persons. In the future, experienced tutors can also get this certificate without attending the whole blended learning phase. They will have to verify their personal competence profile.
