Outstanding quality and achievement in training celebrated at the IT Training Awards 2010
Institute of IT Training | London

5-Feb-2010 » Training Press Releases » The Institute of IT Training's Training Awards 2010 were presented at a glittering gala dinner held at The Dorchester in London last night.

The event also included an emotional address from Claire Brown from ChildLine, who spoke about their counselling work with ChildLine charity for children in trouble or danger, for which the Institute raised £10,000 in its annual charity auction. This brought the total raised by the Institute for the charity to £180,000.

The blue riband award of Training Company of the Year award was won by Verridian, with fierce competition from Bray Leino Broadskill (Silver Award) and Afiniti (Bronze Award).

Training Department of the Year was won by Ricoh Netherlands, whose trainer Mariel Blom also scooped Gold in Trainer of the Year.

The ecstatic training team at Cheshire ITC service won Training Department of the year (Public Sector) for the second year running, whilst the Training Manager of the Year award went to Tim Hunnybun from the University of Leeds.

Two new awards were introduced this year: Learning Technologies Solution of the Year was won by Digital Publishing, and Instructional Designer of the Year which went to Stephanie Dedhar from Saffron Interactive.

The Colin Corder Award for an outstanding contribution to IT training went to Laura Overton. This was an extremely well-received announcement with Laura walking to the stage to a standing ovation. Laura was delighted at her accolade and said: "I am stunned and delighted. I am so honoured to be the first female recipient of this most prestigious of awards".

Other winners of the night were: Global Knowledge (Innovation in Training Services), Bupa Business Technology Training (Internal Training Project of the Year), Afiniti & Network Rail (External Training Project of the Year), The Insolvency Service (Staff Development Programme of the Year), Dennis Silverlock (Freelance Trainer of the Year), andetc.venues' Maple House (Training Venue of the Year).

Institute chief executive Colin Steed, addressing the audience at the awards ceremony, said:

"We are here tonight to celebrate the IT Training Awards - our annual celebration of outstanding achievement, best practice, and excellence in IT training.

"In December our judging panels worked through almost 60 presentations - where the most difficult task of deciding on the winners was accomplished. The job of a judge is becoming harder and harder each year. I would like to thank all of our judges, under the Chairmanship of Alan Bellinger, for giving up their time for us."

"But what it really shows me, is just what influence the Institute has had in raising the standards of the world's best training and development. The standards of all of the entries has been outstanding and to be a Finalist is a real achievement to be proud of.

"So let everyone congratulate every finalist here tonight.

Steed continued to address the packed audience what a momentous year it had been for the Institute. "Firstly, we are delighted with the support from you all for our TPMA service - which has enabled training departments and training providers to provide a Live Assessment Service for all trainers, which provides a joint IITT/BCS Certificate.

"Secondly, we have aligned our membership grades to national standards for the teaching and training profession. We would like to thank LLUK - the sector skills body for learning & development - and City & Guilds - our awarding body - for all the help, support and advice that they have given us in guiding the Institute over the past year.

"This means, for the first time, that our members - working in a commercial environment - to achieve the same qualification and status as that required for professional teachers and college lecturers.

"And we believe that this will at last give our members the real professional status they so rightly deserve."

The event was sponsored by the BCS and was hosted by Sky TV Breakfast presenter Lucy Alexander.

The 2011 IT Training Awards takes place on Thursday 3rd February 2011.
